Support for Secession from US Highest in Alaska
A 2024 poll found that 36% of Alaskans favor secession from the United States.(https://www.juneauempire.com/news/36-of-alaskans-in-survey-favor-seceding-from-u-s-highest-among-47-states-included-in-results/) That is the highest of all 50 states, and is understandable, given the distance, the lack of support and the lack of respect from Washington.
One need only look east to Canada and see how the Canadian government provides support for even the most remote communities in Yukon, Nunavut and the territories to realize the disparity between how Canadians and Americans respect their more vulnerable citizens.
While Canadians recognize the right of aboriginal First Nations people to preserve their ancestral lands, the US government in Washington is looking actively to strip our valuable natural resources and wilderness bare, looking for rare earth metals. These metals are not rare to find,. They are rare to separate from the rest of the ores and require stripping vast swaths of forest while polluting pristine waterways. Yet, our desire for a healthy wilderness is ignored and few local jobs will result from these ventures.
Canada, with some support from the US, built the Alaska highway to provide access for much of Yukon and part of Alaska to the mainland, but Juneau remains teh only capital in any state to have no road leading into it.
Trump talks about how Canada is being "subsidized" by the US because that country exports more than it imports. That isn't a subsidy. It means that we Americans are taking their natural resources and making money off them. The same happens in Alaska. Mainland USA takes far more of our natural resources than it returns in benefits, and we pay a very high price for any of the goods processed from our exports to other states.
We import over $30B from the top fifteen other countries each year, while exporting less than $6B to the top fifteen countries. (https://globaledge.msu.edu/states/alaska/tradestats) Why are the other 48 continental states not providing assistance to us? Because they gain no benefit from doing so, yet gain immensely by buying goods cheaply from our producers and harvesters.
Could one person bring down the mighty American system? Richard Harrison believes he can. A self-described common Joe, he exacts his revenge on a corrupt system that has stolen his life from him piece by piece. For twenty years, Harrison has investigated, planned and invested in his crusade, waiting until the perfect time: now. It is war unlike any other, as he slices like a surgeon at the heart of America’s political and economic empire. But collateral damage will follow. Is there anyone who can thwart his plans before the USA erupts in chaos? Two FBI agents with unique skills stand in his way, but they will not be enough.
To win his war, Harrison needs two unlikely factions working toward the same goal: the alt-right racists and the progressive left environmentalists. It’s an unlikely team, made more improbable because neither knows the other is working in tandem. Big money and big government, though, always in partnership to amass more power, eagerly turn on each other as Richard exposes their frailties. He counts on using their greed, arrogance, and corruption against them. But when Rick Harrison unleashes hell in America, he strains to keep the inferno from blazing out of control.
One person in the background understands Harrison. Joe Cabot, a true common Joe, searches the clues about this saboteur, racing to prevent the chaos Harrison determinedly forces on the USA. He has secrets that Jonah needs to uncover if the real Common Joe is to succeed.
